Director’s Message

Center for Multidisciplinary Development Research (CMDR), Dharwad is a dedicated social science research institute established in the northern region of Karnataka in the year 1980. Since then the institute has been focusing on various social issues of the region, state, and the nation as a whole.

The need for research on issues associated with humankind in general and human behaviour, in particular, plays a pivotal role in society. Even the definition of education interprets education as “bringing desirable changes in human behaviour”. The behavioural components include knowledge, skill, and attitude.

How these components develop in human beings is an area of research. Whether the developed behaviour is in line with societal needs is another issue. What society wants and what we are serving? is the next issue and so on. Here is the need for intervention of social science research inputs, and CMDR has been doing it for nearly five decades.

The institute is putting all its efforts into studying the issues associated with socio-economic development, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), education and skilling, public policy, health and wellbeing, environment & sustainability, human development, agriculture, infrastructure and logistics, media, and technology.

CMDR takes up activities like projects, assessment, impact studies, consultancy, publications, training, workshops capacity building Programmes, seminars, and conferences, educational programmes like certificate courses, Doctoral programmes and Post Doctoral Fellowship, internships, and fellowships, data repository, development of learning resources and collaborations.

CMDR heralds its activities through social media platforms like the CMDR YouTube channel with 113 videos, the CMDR Newsletter, and the CMDR Facebook page. In addition, the website of CMDR accommodates more than 110 monographs, and more than 120 project completion reports.

Collaboration is the key to holistic development. For an institution collaboration is a symbol of excellence. CMDR has entered into MOU with premier Universities and Research and Development institutions and is involved in collaborative research and educational programmes. Also, CMDR has a Doctoral research programme in collaboration with Universities, so far more than 35 scholars have completed their Doctoral theses with the faculty of CMDR as major advisors.

Also, CMDR is looking for partnerships with prominent institutions to work together and help the state and union governments resolve the pertinent problems of society and develop appropriate policy frameworks for the benefit of stakeholders.

Let’s join hands with CMDR for national prosperity.
