Contributions to Economics
Professor Panchamukhi has made significant contributions to economics, particularly in the application of game theory to international trade policy analysis. His collaborative work on ‘Effective Rates of Protection and Domestic Resource Cost’ with Jagdish Bhagwati and T. N. Srinivasan influenced trade policy regimes in the 1960s and 1970s. He also worked on development models and resource gaps for countries in the ESCAP region, contributing to resource transfer strategies in the 1970s. His analytical paper on the proposed Multilateral Agreement on Investment was utilized in WTO Ministerial Meetings in the 1990s.
Contributions to Sanskrit
In addition to his economic pursuits, Professor Panchamukhi has authored multiple books in Sanskrit on economics and management and has composed numerous Sanskrit poems. As Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, he initiated innovative programs such as Sanskrit–Science exhibitions, Sansk-Net, and the digitization of Sanskrit manuscripts. He also established a new department of Dvaita Vedanta at the university.
His research interests include the Bhagavad Gita and management, ancient Indian thoughts on development, the relevance of Sanskrit in modern times, and the intersection of Sanskrit and science. He has delivered lectures interpreting the Bhagavad Gita’s principles in contemporary contexts, which were broadcast by SVBC TV (Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel, TTD).
